CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE / YARD PERSON (temporary position with possibility for seasonal or permanent employment)

We are currently recruiting for a temporary Customer Service Representative/Yard Person to work in our retail store in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Although this is a contract position there is potential for it to become a permanent role. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Over-the-counter sales and customer service
  • Handling cash, credit, and interact transactions, as well as account sales
  • Filling customer orders in a timely, efficient, and friendly manner
  • Representing Shaw Brick at home shows and other trade functions
  • Assisting with semi-annual inventory
  • Safe operation of a forklift
  • Safety in the yard, including safe conduct by all customers and staff
  • Loading and unloading of trucks both by hand and using the forklift
  • Maintaining the yard in a neat and organized fashion.

We are looking for candidates who like to be kept busy, enjoy working in a team environment and take pleasure from serving customers. Other qualifications, skills and abilities that we are seeking include:

  • Grade XII or equivalent; post secondary training in customer service/sales will be considered a strong asset
  • Experience in retail sales; previous experience in the construction material industry would be a real bonus!

  • Provide leadership, coordination, and direction for maintenance to standardize across all operating units.
  • Establish and oversee the divisional preventative maintenance program and work with the management team concerning maintenance, prevention and repairs.
  • Be involved in the strategic direction and execution of significant repairs, fabrication upgrades, maintenance programs, and the purchase of significant operating assets.
  • Lead maintenance personnel and tradespeople in the achievement of departmental and divisional objectives.

You will be responsible for:

  • Promoting a safety conscious working environment.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is in safe working order in line with current regulations.
  • Working with operations managers in setting the appropriate priorities for preventive maintenance, efficient reporting, and tracking systems for inspection compliance.
  • Planning and forecasting to allow for the adequate approvals for the divisions maintenance budget. Managing project costs and maintenance budgets.
  • Analysing and reporting on key performance indicators and industry trends.
  • Developing and implementing new business strategies for creating or improving processes and procedures to improve productivity and minimize down time.
  • Leading a team of multi-disciplined maintenance technicians and trades people.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Post-Secondary academic diploma or degree in a technical field is an asset (ie. Millwright, Engineering).
  • Previous management experience in a manufacturing environment with proven technical competency.
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes.
  • Knowledge of aggregate and wood pellet manufacturing equipment and mobile equipment a strong asset.

  • Providing a high volume of prompt and courteous service and product solutions both through telephone and email. This position involves frequent telephone communication with contractors, project managers and less often the general public.
  • Providing solution-minded customer service. This position is a liaison for our customers assisting with; shipping product, processing orders, handling account questions, accurate account billing, processing order cancelations, complaints, and other general queries.
  • Selling our products and advising on product and company information.
  • The maintenance of customer & supplier accounts as carried out by correctly invoicing, crediting, and accurately reconciling those accounts.
  • Coordinating the on-time deliveries for precast concrete materials to jobsites within the Maritime Provinces.
  • Reviewing the manufacturing schedule and coordinating the timely delivery of project specific materials between the production floor and the final user on site.
  • Updating and maintaining sales orders and inventory levels through POS software (Syspro) and physical paper records.
  • The preparation of quotations and simple project specific design drawings on a project-by-project basis.
  • Standard product costing and price list revisions.
  • Basic inventory, accounting, and dispatch responsibilities are required, as well as the ability to give administrative support to the sales staff.
  • Handling petty cash and cash sales blotter.

You will have the following qualification, knowledge and skills:
