The Shaw Group Limited has been honoured with an Employer Safety Champion Award through the Mainstay Awards Program.
The Mainstay Awards are an annual program presented in partnership by the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education (LAE). The awards set a standard for safety leadership by recognizing individuals, organizations, and employers whose efforts have moved Nova Scotia workplaces toward a safer future. The program offers 16 awards in eight categories.
The prestigious Employer Safety Champion Award recognizes an employer who has demonstrated an exemplary health and safety program and proven injury prevention track record in their workplace.
The Shaw Group has always placed a high value on providing a safe work environment for employees. The company’s first safety officer was hired in 1977 and since that time, safety programs have grown stronger every year, leading to an ingrained culture of safety and an exceptional safety record in all divisions.
“Receiving this award is a great honour and provides even more impetus to continue our good work,” says President and CEO Dean Robertson. “Our safety motto is ‘No one will get hurt today or tomorrow,’ and these are not just words. We care deeply for our people and recognize that they are our most valuable asset. We will work hard to continue to provide safe workplaces for our employees.”
The Shaw Group was recognized at an event on May 5, 2015 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
